Reece oxford
Just seen he's joined borussia monchengladbach on a seasons long loan.

Seems like an odd one.

Re: Reece oxford
I personally don't get this. Borussia Monchengladbach are arguably a better team than us so if he does start games it will be good experience for him.

However, I would keep him and play him next to Ogbonna when Reid get's injured. I can't remember the last time (If ever) Reid went a whole season uninjured so he would definitely get his opportunities.

Everton/Koeman are a prime example of what can be achieved if you give them a go, pains me to say i am rather envious of both the young talent they have and that they get a chance.

Official site is always giving it large that we have pinched this 16yr old from arsenal or this 17yr old from chelsea, whats the fucking point when we do not even see them in the league cup 2nd round at Exeter City.

then you hear the manager has been to see them play only 2/3 times since been here, *wanker sign*

Re: Reece oxford
I feel this could be a good move for Reece, from what I've seen the Bundesliga altough a good league is of a slower pace than the premier League.

We have let Havard Nordtveit go as he could not get used to the pace of the premier league and he spent 5 years at Borussia Monchengladbach. If Reece can't make a name for himself there then there is no point in bringing him back.

Agreed something has to be done. But being partizan I'd rather we did it first and became known once again for our youth. As I've said many times over the years, I think it's not only the principle I believe in, but also the most effective strategy to challenge the big clubs over time.

Re: Reece oxford
Alex V, it's partly the fault of the Premier League, there should be a rule where clubs must play 2 or 3 home grown players in every game. One of the reason I'm losing interest in football as a whole is the obsession with staying in the Premier league at all costs.

Re: Reece oxford
Why pay him that just to ship him out somewhere else? Either we should never have paid it if we had no intention of developing him, or we should have backed him having taken the plunge.

For me the question is simple - are we the academy of football? Is that an indelible part of the traditions of our club? If so, then the supposedly brightest talents should play - they should succeed or fail based on those principles. If not, then we accept that the club are betraying the principles and the history of the club. And we make our disgust at that clear.

Agreed and one of the reasons I didn't renew my season ticket.

What have we done for him?

Well how about paying him £15K p w for the last two years.

That's the very best scenario you're describing there - I'll believe that when I see it. But if he has a great campaign in the Bundesliga why would he want to come back to us? What would we have to offer him? What is his loyalty to us? What have we done for him, other than let him fester in the reserves?

And most damning of all, if he has a great campaign in the Bundesliga he could have done the same for us in the Premiership. It makes no logical sense to me.

Never mind about Reece Oxford how about Reece Burke??! Surely he has to break through this next season ??
Oxford may benefit from a loan abroad, I'll trust Bilic on this one.

"This way, I just don't see a plan. There's no philosophy on show that I think is beneficial to our club. "

Why No. 1?

He'll have a year in the technically proficient Bundesliga, after which he'll come back in a good place to slot into our team. Why would he leave all of a sudden?

Re: Reece oxford
Yep players do eventually move on at any age. But do it the right way and we'd be getting top whack for those that do go, which can then be reinvested in the next generation.

This way, I just don't see a plan. There's no philosophy on show that I think is beneficial to our club.

"I want us to develop young players with a loyalty to the club representing us on the pitch"

That will never happen in reality. Otherwise well run sliced bread clubs like Everton would be able to keep Rooney, Barclay, etc.

>>> if he can get first team football regularly his development will come on astronomically over the next year.

Setting him up nicely for his next move. Probably financially that would be a win for us, but I want us to develop young players with a loyalty to the club representing us on the pitch.

What an excellent move for Oxford and the club - if he can get first team football regularly his development will come on astronomically over the next year.

Re: Reece oxford
Is it because our younger players are not getting the right coaching in their particular position!

Shame Bilic couldn't give Oxford the benefit of all of his experience and bring him on,

I am beginning to loathe Bilic and his penchant for his persistence in signing shit OAP'S over blooding undoubted up and coming talent.

This has all the hallmarks of Freddy Sears mkII don't be surprised when he is one of those "Where is he now questions" in 3-4 years. We big youngsters up too much; heap all the pressure on then rip them to pieces when they don't come up to expectations quickly. He needs to be left alone for the season and hopefully will come back a better player.

Re: Reece oxford
Fucking ridiculous loan. We should have brought him through last season instead of him wasting his time at Reading, and us buying a 33 year old bang average Fonte.

On his debut at just 16 he proved to everyone that he had the talent and potential to become a top player there and then.

Personally, I think we have failed to nurture that raw talent and potential.

We are loaning young players out to whoever offers us a decent fee. A season playing week in week out in the championship would set him up for the first team the season after.

I hope he gets regular game time in Germany but I cant see it happening. He must have reassurances from the club otherwise why would he agree to such a move.

Alex V 12:23 Tue Jun 20
Re: Reece oxford
Does seem odd. Though that's typical of our youth policy. No chance to assess him pre-season. No desire to actually include him. If he plays there then we'll all say 'why isn't he in our team?'. If he doesn't we'll say 'why loan him somewhere to be a reserve again?'.
